REKI and how it works

What Did You Say?…Reiki?!?

Article Written by Jess Glatz, Reiki Master/Intuitive Healer of Mindful Healing Practices and Ohio Holistic Healthcare

“My coworker was just talking about Reiki.” "My best friend in Colorado knows how to do Reiki." “Oh, my sister’s boyfriend is into Reiki.”   “My aunt says she had a treatment the other day and loved it.”

That is what we are hearing these days, talk about Reiki, BUT WHAT IS IT?

The Usui System of Reiki Healing is a hands-on healing technique that is currently gaining popularity and being encouraged in the medical community as a form of treatment. Reiki is an ancient “laying-on-of-hands” healing modality that uses the universal life healing energy to balance the subtle energies within our bodies, assist in aligning our chakras, encourage healing and enhance well-being. Reiki practitioners act as a conduit or channel through which Reiki energy is transferred from healer to client.

Why should we be adding Reiki to our self-care routines or healing practices?

The intended result of receiving Reiki is a balanced physical, mental, and emotional being. Reiki is used to support a healthy lifestyle, or specifically for the purpose of trying to deal with a particular health condition.  Studies have shown that Reiki offers multiple health benefits, including:

  • Pain Management

  • Increased healing time for wounds

  • Lower blood pressure

  • Improved quality of sleep

  • Anxiety relief and general relaxation

  • Pre and post op. assistance

  • Clarity of mind

Reiki can also assist in mental/emotional healing and growth, helping to release mental/emotional blockages and traumas or addictions.

There are various levels of Reiki training: Level I, Level II and Reiki Master.  Reiki Master is the highest level which allows the practitioner the ability to assist in various types of healing, not limited to the physical body.  The Master Level practice encompasses mental and emotional healing strategies.

Let’s break down the healing intentions:

  • PHYSICAL: aims to alleviate pain and increase physical healing time.

  • MENTAL: aims to alleviate stress and reduce anxiety, improve mood and increase quality sleep.

  • EMOTIONAL: aims to alleviate negative thoughts, insomnia, lack of confidence, addiction and fear-based blocks and trauma.

  • DISTANCE REIKI: Reiki healing sessions can be received remotely through distance healing.

So who needs Reiki?

Everyone, everywhere in any state can benefit from Reiki.  Reiki’s healing energy is easily accepted by our bodies. But, wait….your pets can even benefit from Reiki.  Our furry friends may also need assistance with pain management and anxiety.  A little Reiki from a healer may be just what they need be calm and comfortable.

Why should I make an appointment with a Reiki Master?

You should make an appointment with a Reiki Master when you feel ready to add to, or change your current health care routine.  Reiki healing is a great partner to what you are already doing for your physical pain management.  It can also support you in a challenge or commitment you are making.

Should Reiki replace traditional medical or therapeutic treatments?

No. Reiki partners well with other types of medical and therapeutic treatments. Reiki can increase the efficiency of other types of healing practices. Reiki treatments should not be used as a substitute for consultation or a physician, a practitioner or natural therapeutics or a psychotherapist.

My personal experience as a 14 year Reiki Master is ever growing and consistently bringing me peace and good health.  My journey with Reiki has been very life affirming.  I was in my mid 20’s and was looking for my place in the Universe.  The Reiki trainings, meditations and attunements helped me release some internal blockages, and helped me be more open to the possibilities in front of me.  In addition, I felt that my intuition and ability to be “in tune” with others and the world around me was heightened through Reiki, thus allowing me to be a successful intuitive healer. I have given treatments to many people for various ailments, conditions and requests. I find that I am able to connect with them on a unique level/vibration as I am working on them, leading to balanced intuitive healing experience.
